Are you guilty of overlooking your hallway decor?
Let’s be honest, hallways are often the most neglected areas of our homes. But it’s time for that to change!
While we may not spend much time in them, hallways are the first impression your home makes. They set the tone for the entire space, and a well designed hallway can create an inviting and welcoming atmosphere.
The good news? Elevating your hallway doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.
In this blog post, we’re exploring how to design your hallway in
Let’s get started!
1. Add Panelling
I absolutely absolutely love panelling when it comes to hallway design. It’s one of the most simple ways to elevate this part of your home.
It adds such a classic design element that makes the entire space feel SO elegant.
When choosing panelling, I recommend opting for a classic design that will stand the test of time.
When fitting the panelling, I love to go with one colour at the top of the wall (usually a neutral) and then a separate colour for the panelling below that is usually a little darker.

2. Opt For a Darker Colour
Now hear me out on this one. Your hallway doesn’t have to be a bright color to feel welcoming. In fact, I’ve been loving the style of darker hallways lately, and here’s why.
Pairing a light, neutral shade on the upper walls with dark paneling below creates a stunning contrast that feels both modern and intentional. It also adds a bunch of depth to your home and just has that expensive feel!
You could even just make the woodwork dark to create a really stunning contrast like this example from Decora Mouldings.
3. Add a Console Table
Console tables are both functional and productive and honestly, they are a must for every hallway!
Not only does it provide a convenient surface to share family photos, plants and candles, but it can also offer a practical storage solution where you can store your keys, clothing and shoes.
When choosing a console table, make sure to find a design that compliments the rest of the entryway and even your entire home.
Perch and Parrow have such a great range of console table options - I particularly love the Tibur style!
4. Add a Statement Mirror
Next in this guide on how to design your hallway is to add a statement mirror.
Adding a large mirror to your entryway can completely open up the space and is essential in hallway design.
If you have a smaller entryway, you may find yourself trying not to add mirrors but trust me on this one, even a narrow and dark entryway can be completely transformed by the use of a mirror.

5. Implement Bespoke Storage Solutions
If you can afford to, I really recommend finding storage solutions that can fit seamlessly into your hallway.
This could be a mounted shoe rack or a cupboard that completely hides itself away, as though it is a part of the wall.
Not only does this add so much more space within your home but it’s practical too. It’s the ideal place to store everything you need before you rush out the door.
Pinterest is amazing for inspiration for this. This fabulous concealed cupboard has been design by Howden's.
6. Add Plants
Finally on this list of how to design your hallway is to add plants.
Plants are one of the easiest ways to elevate your home. If you can, try to opt for real plants as since they’ll be near a light source, the door, they’ll be much more likely to survive.
If you have a smaller hallway, then floor, hanging or table plants are all great options.
Bringing greenery into your home is also a really great way to enhance the air quality and make you feel far more healthy and productive!
