Moving into a new home is always such a fun time and being surprised with a housewarming gift makes the experience even better!
So, if you know somebody who just bought their first place or maybe even their dream home, here are my top housewarming ideas to welcome them into their new place!
Things to Keep in Mind When Purchasing Housewarming Gifts
Before I list my favourite housewarming gifts, here are some things to keep in mind before you make the purchase.
1. Make Practicality a Priority
When moving into a new home, the last thing you want is a load of new things that you don’t really need.
Moving can be very overwhelming so when purchasing a gift, think about how practical it is. Can they use it straight away and will it be a great addition to their home?
2. Consider Their Space
You need to consider their space to ensure that your gift is not going to overwhelm a room in their home.
If you haven’t visited yet, I would opt for a smaller gift that you know will fit within their house.
3. Choose Quality
Every time you move into a new house, you always go through a period of throwing out things that you no longer use, right?
So when picking a housewarming gift, you want to make sure it's something that the person wants to keep for a long time.
The Best Housewarming Gifts
Now you know what to consider when purchasing a housewarming gift, here are the top housewarming gifts to consider.
1. Candles
One of the best (and easiest to buy) housewarming gifts is any form of scented candle or room spray.
Everybody wants to make their house smell nice and will anybody really say ‘no’ to a candle? I don’t think so!
Whilst there are so many different scents to choose from, I would opt for a scent that is fresh and not too overpowering so that you can ensure that the homeowner will like it.
NEOM has some beautiful candles with calming scents.
2. Kitchen Appliances
When thinking of the best housewarming gifts, kitchen appliances always come to mind.
But instead of going for a kettle or something that they probably already have, select kitchen appliances such as a blender, a whisk or a juicer.
These kitchen appliances are usually things that people leave until the last minute and are always grateful to be brought for them.
AO has a great variety of options when it comes to kitchen appliances.
3. Personalised Keyholders
Personalised key holders are such a great way to welcome people into their homes, especially when it’s their first home.
There are plenty of websites that offer personalised keyholders or you can head over to Etsy where you can find lots of housewarming gifts.
In my opinion, this is the perfect way to pay homage to their new home and it keeps their keys safe in one place.
You can also look at places like NOTHS if you're based in the UK.
4. Ceramic Vase & Flowers
Fresh flowers are the best way to lighten up your home and bring the outdoors in!
But instead of just purchasing flowers, accompany them with a vase that they can keep in their home for each time they are brought flowers.
Cox & Cox has some lovely ceramic vase options.
5. Personalised Wooden Chopping Table
A wooden chopping table is a must have and due to the material, it is easily engraved!
You can DIY this yourself or find personalised wooden chopping tables online which can be featured in their kitchen as either a serving board or a regular chopping board.
NOTHS, Holly & Co and Etsy all have some great options from small businesses.
6. House Plants
Plants are the perfect addition to a new home as they purify the air. Just make sure the plant that you buy is easy to look after (the last thing you want to give a new homeowner is another responsibility!)
Succulents and snake plants are both great options.
Patch has some great house plants for gifts!
7. Unique Mugs
Why not purchase a mug that represents each of the people who are moving into that home?
This is one of my favourite housewarming guests because you can completely personalise it to the people within the home.
And honestly, you can never have enough mugs.
Oliver Bonas has some really fun options!
8. Salt & Pepper Grinders
Instead of regular salt and pepper grinders, find colourful salt and pepper grinders to add a unique addition to their kitchen!
Salt and pepper grinders are something that people rarely purchase themselves but always love to have.
Anthropologie have some lovely housewarming gifts like these shakers!
9. Tea Towels
Again, tea towels are just another option where people always want to have them but it’s something that is forgotten about or left to the last minute.
Oliver Bonas has some really fun pop-art style tea towels.
10. Fun Cereal Bowls
Breakfast is the best meal of the day so surprise your friends or family with some fun cereal bowl!
There are plenty of shapes and patterns to choose from online. My favourite are the heart shaped bowls!
These sweet bowls from Sklum would make a great housewarming present!
11. A Doormat
Practical gifts are always one of the best ways to go when buying housewarming gifts and nothing says practicality more than a doormat.
Just remember this is a very popular housewarming gift so just double check that nobody else has already brought them one.
Once again, Oliver Bonas is an excellent source of quirky and fun housewarming gifts.
Key Takeaways on The Best Housewarming Gifts
Those were all of my best housewarming gift ideas.
From candles to house plants and chopping boards, when selecting a housewarming gift always choose quality and practicality over anything else!
