9 Steps to Create Your Dream Summer Bedroom

9 Steps to Create Your Dream Summer Bedroom

The days are getting longer and the temperatures are getting warmer and it is officially the summertime. Hallelujah!

The vibrant energy that comes with summer is something that I totally adore and it’s one of my favourite seasons to start experimenting with different colours, fabrics and home decor pieces. And the bedroom is the perfect place to do that!

So, if you're hoping to create your dream summer bedroom then this is the expert guide for you.

I’ve collected my favourite interior design hacks to transform your room for the new season.

Keep scrolling to find out how to create your own summer haven that promotes warmth, relaxation, and the essence of this glorious season.

1. Bring the Outdoors in

Arguably, the best thing about the summer weather is you can make sure that plants survive inside your home, even if you don’t have a green thumb.

Having fresh flowers, potted plants and succulents in your bedroom can bring a lighter feel to your bedroom.

Not only do plants help you be more productive but they also bring an overall energising effect to the room.

Experiment with different plant types, colours, and even get to try out different vase shapes too! They don’t have to be expensive, thrift stores and charity shops usually have some great options

2. Choose Lighter Fabrics

As much as we all love the winter cosy feel, summer weather definitely requires lighter and breezier materials.

Linen and cotton are great choices for bedding as they provide a cooler and more comfortable effect during the summer months.

To make the room feel cooler, you can also opt for lightweight curtains that allow the natural light to stream through or trade out the curtains completely for a new set of blinds.

Anthropologie has a great range of lightweight curtains that are perfect for summer.

3. Try Out a Coastal Design

Nothing says summer more than a beachy coastal vibe in your room.

If you’re lucky enough to live by the beach, finding some seashells and driftwood can be a really fun way to bring the outdoors in.

If you’re not lucky enough to live by the beach, then you can always find beach themed artwork that promotes a sense of peace and calm.

Woven rugs, coastal patterns and wicker baskets will have the ability to transform your room into a serene oasis without actually having to head to the beach.

Borrowed Light by Farrow and Ball is beautiful for a fresh coastal look and Nkuku has some gorgeous wicker homewares

4. Upcycle Furniture

Upcycling furniture is one of my most favourite things to do during the summer months.

I feel far more motivated to become creative in the summer months and quite honestly, the paint dries far quicker!

Make sure to check out my blog on how to upcycle furniture here!

Pinterest is great for finding summer home decor projects. Adding these personalised touches to a room it’s just a great reminder of the joys of summer.

5. Consider Summer Scents

Although I’m definitely guilty of burning autumn and winter scents during the spring, summer calls for a much lighter, fruitier sense.

Whether it’s candles, essential oil diffusers, or room sprays, opting for fresh floral, coconut or citrus sense promotes a sense of summer.

Check out Layered Lounge for some great summer scents!

6. Playful Patterns

Summer is the time to have fun with your room and purchase seasonal decorations that you switch out each season. Pillows, rugs and bedding are great options to do this with.

You can have fun with these patterns, and instead of opting for basic or cosy, feeling decor instead experiment with colour and patterns.

Bright colourful patterned pieces add a cheerful touch to your room and create a stimulating environment that makes you want to crack on with that next summer project!

Dunelm has some great and affordable summer bedding collections.

7. Lighter Furniture

If you’re planning on redecorating your whole room for this summer, then consider purchasing some area furniture options that you can trade in and out during the seasons.

Wicker or rattan furniture has a bohemian feel to the room but also makes the room far more spacious.

If you're not trying to re-design your entire room just for a season then you can find light coloured slipcovers to go over specific furniture pieces to create an airy feel.

This wicker table lamp is a perfect example of movable furniture you can introduce for the summer months.

8. Personalise With Some Memories.

If you’re experiencing holidays and going out with your friends this summer, then why not commit to taking photographs and creating a collage of vacation snapshots, postcards and souvenirs in your room!

This adds such an adorable sentimental touch that you can put into storage and then bring out each year and continue to add to.

The photo frame ranges from Dunelm and Perch & Parrow are so fab!

9. Add Finishing Touches

One way I love to freshen up my room is by switching up the door knobs and door handles of my cabinets, wardrobes and drawers.

We have a huge selection of affordable hardware in some gorgeous summer designs! Make sure to check those out!

Our door knobs and door handles are made from solid brass so they are durable and add a touch of elegance to your existing furniture for an affordable price!

Key Takeaways

Transforming your room for summer is just one of those interior design things that are so fun to do!

You get to embrace your creative spirit and experiment, with colour, natural elements and just genuinely have fun with interior design which is what it is all about.

You don’t have to completely redecorate your entire room but even just upcycling one or two pieces, purchasing new bed linen and adding fun patterns can make a huge difference.

If you’re on a budget but still want to make your room look more abstract then consider heading to the beach collecting some seashells and creating the coastal theme.

If you do not live by the beach then finding plants and flowers will suffice instead. Create a summer inspired retreat right at your home.
