Did you know that the furniture and decor in your bedroom can significantly impact the quality of your sleep?
Even the color you choose for your walls can play a major role in how well you rest each night.
If you're planning to redesign your bedroom and want to create the ultimate sleep-friendly space, this guide is for you!
I’ll break down essential bedroom design tips to help you enjoy a restful night’s sleep every single time. Keep reading to find out more!
1. Choose Warm Paint Colours
One of the easiest ways to promote a sense of relaxation in your room is by painting the walls a calming colour.
When designing your room, you’ll want to avoid busy wallpapers and opt for softer warmer colours.
Colours such as beige, pastels, light blues and greens are really great options here.

2. Decrease Patterned Furniture & Home Decor
Just as I mentioned that you shouldn’t have patterns on your walls, you should also opt for less busy furniture and decor such as bedding, rugs, and artwork.
When selecting these items, opt for calming colors with minimal patterns. Imagine your bedroom as a serene hotel room at a spa where the rooms are designed to encourage you to relax.

3. Avoid Clutter In Your Room
Have you ever stepped into your room before tidying it and felt completely overwhelmed? You should avoid this at all costs.
Going to sleep in an untidy, cluttered room can make you feel chaotic and can even produce nightmares.
Even if you lean toward maximalism in other parts of your home, I encourage you to embrace minimalism in your bedroom.
Taking just a few minutes each evening to tidy up your space can have a surprisingly big impact on the quality of your sleep.

4. Create an Appealing Layout
Designing your room in a way that has an appealing layout is one of the best hacks for a more peaceful room.
One way to do this is to start purchasing storage solutions. By doing so, you’ll have a space for everything in your home and it will be neatly packed away, out of sight.
If you have a big enough room, you should also consider how feng shui affects the room. For example, opting for furniture that is round instead of harsh corners can really make all of the difference to how your room feels.

5. Avoid Working In Your Room
If possible, I highly recommend not having a desk in your room where you can be encouraged to work on projects.
Your room should solely be a place for you to unwind and relax and not have to think about any work you want to do.
It's equally important to never, ever bring work into bed. Working in bed can significantly disrupt your ability to relax and may interfere with both your sleep quality and overall well-being.
6. Use Soft Accent Lighting
I rarely use the big light in my bedroom and instead, I opt for candles and lamps.
Plus, the bulbs in your room should all have a warm tone as this will encourage you to unwind.

7. Blackout Window Treatments
Quality sleep is created when the room is in total darkness and you have no distractions.
Blackout window treatments are perfect for this.
They are similar to blinds but instead block all of the light that may come in, ensuring you get a better night's sleep. Or, you could opt for a blackout lining in a roman blind or curtain.

8. Avoid Having a Large Bedside Table
Having a large bedside table encourages you to keep too many distractions nearby.
Instead have a smaller bedside table that can only hold a few things such as essential oils or a book to help you sleep.
And I know this is so much harder said than done but if you can avoid having your phone next to you whilst you sleep, you should.
