Wondering how to transition your home for the near year?

In this blog post, I’m breaking down the simple ways to make your home go from a cosy Christmas environment to a fresh uplifting space so you can take on anything that this year has to offer.

Keep scrolling to find out how!

1. Start Decluttering

The first step in organising your home for the New Year is to take this time to do a huge declutter.

The New Year brings a time to freshen up your home and one of the best ways to do that is to get rid of anything you no longer want or need. This is one of my favourite activities to do at the end of December!

It can give you a much more clear headspace so you can enter the New Year feeling fresh and ready to take on whatever life has to throw at you.

I love to practise the Marie Kondo method where you ask yourself when deciding whether to keep or throw away an item, whether it sparks joy. If it doesn’t bring you joy anymore then it should either be donated, sold or thrown away.

I really recommend being pretty ruthless in this process. It’s easy to keep a hold of things that we think we will need but end up not using them for the entire year. And the more you keep, the more space it will take up in your home.

2. Perform a Closet Clear Out

Similar to the items within our homes, having a jam packed wardrobe with a bunch of clothes that you don’t wear is one of the quickest ways to overwhelm yourself.

Clearing out your closet and the clothes that you’ve not worn in a long time helps to create a much more spacious feel in your bedroom.

You could even take this opportunity to downsize your wardrobe into a small chest of drawers or even just a clothing rack, so you can have a much more minimalistic approach to your room as well as your attire.

3. Organise Your Kitchen

Your kitchen pantry and kitchen are some of the most popular rooms within your home but they can often be the most overwhelming.

If one of your New Year resolutions is to eat more healthily or learn how to cook, the best way to make that habit stick is by having an organised kitchen.

Head into your local convenience store and you can find a bunch of tupperware options which you can label and create an organised system in your kitchen.

This process usually takes a little while but it is absolutely worth it!

4. Consider Painting Your Rooms a New Colour

Do you have a room that is feeling a little bit drab or outdated?

Adding a fresh lick of paint to the walls in a fresh light colour can completely change how the room feels.

The new year is a great time to transition out of cosy colours and instead opt for lighter colours to make your room feel more motivating.

5. Choose a Signature Fresh Scent

Whether you opt for candles or essential oils, there are multiple scents that can completely transform the vibe in your home.

As we make our way into the New Year, it’s a great time to transition out of the cosy or sweet scents and instead choose fresh scents that aren’t too overpowering.

6. Transition Your Home Decor

Yep, although it’s always a sad time of year when we have to put away all of the Christmas decorations, doing so is a great way to transition quickly into the new year.

So put down your Christmas tree, get rid of the Santa decorations and instead bring in fresh flowers, plants and things that bring life into your home.

This is also a great chance to change bedding, switch out cushions and take down any Christmas hanging decorations.

Don’t worry, the years are literally flying by, Christmas will be back soon!
