How To Save Money on a Kitchen Renovation

How To Save Money on a Kitchen Renovation

Whenever you undertake a big project, such as a kitchen renovation, one of the first thoughts that comes to mind is “how much will this cost?”

But I’m a huge advocate for saying that renovating any spacing in your home doesn’t have to be extremely expensive so I created this guide on how to save money on a kitchen renovation!

From comparing renovation prices to cutting costs on flooring in cabinets, this guide will hopefully help you to save a few pennies whilst still creating a kitchen that you love!

Set a Budget & Track Money Spent

The first way to save money on a kitchen renovation is to set a budget and create a process that allows you to track how much money is being spent.

If you set yourself a specific budget, you have a figure that you know you don’t want to go over.

When renovating it can be easy to get confused with costs, thinking that everything is far cheaper than it is, then you get to the end of the project and realise you spent way more than you thought you would.

Having a simple process such as a spreadsheet to track where money is being spent is a great way to stay on track throughout the entire project. Etsy has some great downloadable templates.

Do What You Can Yourself

Smaller aspects of the project process such as painting the walls or replacing door knobs and door handles on your kitchen cabinets can all be done by yourself which can save you so much money in the process.

Whilst you want to avoid taking on any of the projects that use your plumbing system or require techniques that you don’t possess, it can be kind of fun to get involved with the renovation process!

Keep The Existing Layout

One of the most costly parts of a renovation process is when you want to change the entire layout of the kitchen.

Doing so will mean you may need to hire an architect as well as people to move around your water system.

I recommend keeping the sink and oven in the same place to save costs.

Consider Budget Flooring

Instead of removing your entire flooring, you can get flooring tiles that cover your existing tiles.

This can be a low-cost way to transform your kitchen and they tend to be very durable, too!

Add New Hardware

Changing small things throughout your kitchen such as the cabinet door knobs and door handles can make such a huge difference to a space.

Choose Ready To Assemble Cabinets

If you are changing the cabinets in your kitchen, you can get easy-to-assemble cabinets which you can build yourself, therefore saving costs on having to hire a handyman.

Compare Costs

One of the most overlooked ways to save money in the kitchen renovation is to not go with the first handful of people that you meet with to work on this project.

Instead, invest time into shopping around and getting the best deals.

You want to make sure that you compare prices from a variety of people to make sure that you’re getting the best bang for your buck!

That being said, there is a fine line between going with the cheapest service and going with a slightly more expensive service, but knowing that they will get the work done.

I recommend finding somebody who has had a good experience with renovators before and speaking to them!
