How To Grow Your Small Business

How To Grow Your Small Business

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission if you make a purchase using these links, at no cost to you. I only recommend products from suppliers I genuinely love and use, as an interior designer.

Starting a small business is easy but knowing how to grow your small business and get your products loved by an audience is far more tricky.

Implementing a growth strategy for your small business is something you should seriously consider doing. Since doing so in my own business, I have seen an increase in the people viewing my products.

That is why I’ve created this guide to the seven best ways to grow your small business and get noticed by your target audience.

Keep scrolling to determine which method to grow your small business is best for you.

1. Posting on Social Media

After you have worked out how to start a small business, you need to start posting about it. Social media is going to be one of your biggest small business tools because so many people are shopping online.

That being said, trying to juggle multiple social media accounts can be time-consuming. If you can’t afford to hire help,  I suggest picking two platforms and being consistent with them instead of posting on every platform possible. Trying to post on every platform will only lead to burning out and you may even give up on your business entirely.

When deciding which social media platform to choose, you should take into consideration where your target audience will most likely be.
For example, lifestyle products perform well on Instagram and TikTok whereas clothing products may be better suited for Pinterest.

You should also learn how the algorithm works. Usually, including keywords in the caption will help to boost your post and put you in front of your ideal audience.
Make sure to also be using reels if your chosen platform is Instagram as the platform is currently prioritising them.

2. Use Keywords on Your Website

Keywords are a huge function that will help to get your business to appear on Google.

Keywords are words that Google recognizes on your website and will use to determine which audience it should show your website to.
Think of it like this. What would your target customer type into Google in order for your products to come up?

If you’re having a hard time determining which keywords are ideal for your product, you can find keyword tools online. These will help you find specific keywords for your niche.

3. Support Other Small Businesses

One thing that I find very valuable as a small business is to network and support other businesses.

Whether that’s purchasing from somebody's small business or simply commenting on a social media post, these aspects of running a small business can go a long way.

Not only will this result in other people showing up and supporting your content and products but it may lead to a collaboration. Collaborations are the perfect way to get your products in front of a new audience.

4. Posts Blogs on Your Website

Another way to make sure your business starts ranking on Google is to write blogs for your website.

When you have blogs on your website, you can incorporate many more keywords into the blogs. This will increase your chance of ranking high on Google.

When doing this, make sure to keep your blogs diverse. The more variety of topics you have, the more people your blogs will be read by.

5. Use Pinterest To Promote Your Products

Pinterest is much more of a search engine than it is a social media platform.

The platform sees over 400 million visitors each year, however, it is often overlooked by many business owners.

However, Pinterest is great for small business owners as you can attach links directly to your shop. This means the buyer can purchase directly from Pinterest by clicking on a photo that they like the most. The Pinterest algorithm then helps your business further by showing more  of your products to the user.

You will also be surprised at how many people use Pinterest for gift ideas!

6. Run Ads

Depending on your product, running ads on Google or even on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram can be a great way for you to sell your products with minimal effort.

After creating the AD, the platform does all the work for you by placing ADs on the devices of your target audience.

The only downside to this method is that it is an investment. But you have to spend money to make money, right? Plus, there is no guarantee that people will buy from these ads.

However, it’s a great way to trial your products on different platforms to see which social media platform gets the most traction. You can then take this data and focus on posting on the social media platform that gained the most engagement.

7. Gain PR

Depending on what your product is, securing PR in online publications can be a great way to create authority and build recognition for your product.

There are different websites such as Haro or even just using apps such as X (formally known as Twitter) where you can look for opportunities.

You will have to answer a few questions about your product and work with the journalist which can be time consuming. However, if you can secure a product placement in a popular publication or magazine, this is a free way of getting your product out there.

Admittedly, you will also have to invest quite a lot of time into searching for publications that are looking for your product but if you have the time to do so, this can be very valuable.

Key Takeaways

Those were my best inexpensive ways to grow your small business.

Whether you choose to invest in AD placements or build an organic audience on social media, I always suggest committing to one or two of these methods to see the types of results that you get. Then, after a month or two, you can adjust the strategy when needed.

The most important aspect, when considering how to start a small business, is committing to your business.

Building a business takes time and is definitely a learning process. However, the entire process has so many rewards if you’re willing to put in the work!
