Are you thinking of renovating your bathroom but have no idea where to start?

A lot of the time we buy a new home and then we don’t realise how much planning goes into the renovation process. If that’s you right now, I totally get you!! The task can feel overwhelming at first but with the right guidance, it can be transformed into an exciting process.

In this blog post, I’m breaking down the top aspects you need to keep in mind before you start renovating our bathroom. Keep scrolling to find out more!

1. Your Budget

The first thing you need to consider before you start renovating a bathroom is your budget.

You will need to know exactly how much you are able to spend as this will help you to prioritise what parts of the bathroom renovation are most important to you.

Renovating a space can be affordable but the more you plan before you start, the cheaper it will be.

2. Your Space

Because bathrooms are often the smallest room in the house, it’s important to make the most of the space that you have.

If you're struggling to understand where best to position things within the bathroom it would be a great idea to work with an interior designer as they will offer expert advice on how the bathroom renovation can take place.

By working with an interior designer, you may consider design aspects that you haven't thought of before.

3. Your Style

You also need to think about the style that you would like to achieve in the bathroom.

Pinterest is a really great place to get inspiration for the room as there are so many different designs on that platform.

Personally, I really love when people go out of the box with their bathroom styles and create something that’s a little bit different to the rest of the home!

As an interior designer, I can't stress the important of a moodboard enough to organise your ideas.

4. Ventilation

Because it’s a bathroom, you really need to think about the positioning of the different furniture within the room to ensure maximum ventilation.

You should even consider installing a ventilation fan (if your bathroom doesn’t already have one) as this fan will help to remove excess moisture from the air and prevent mould.

This is an absolute must for all bathrooms to help keep your bathroom looking great all year long.

You can even get nice looking ones, like this one from Victorian Plumbing

5. Plumbing

The bathroom has quite an intricate plumbing system that you need to consider if you’re moving the bathtub or the toilet.

Moving these things in your bathroom can have a huge effect on the overall renovation cost so you need to think carefully about doing this.

Try drawing up a plan on a free software such as SketchUp and getting your contractor to confirm the layout works before purchasing anything.

6. Finishing Touches

One of the best parts about renovation is when everything is all in place and you can go in with the final touches.

Mirrors, extra storage, succulents and fragrances will all help to bring the bathroom together.

7. Selecting a Contractor

Finding a contractor to help you with the renovation is possibly one of the hardest parts of the renovation process.

It can be tricky to find somebody that you trust but I recommend meeting with multiple people and getting different prices before going ahead.

Alternatively, you can hire an interior designer who will have access to trusted contractors that will ensure that the renovation gets completed in a timely manner and to a high standard.
